By your use of the word "interesting" I get the feeling that your not so taken by the choice of color . The purple supposed to be more of a burgundy/salmon because I was trying to force some of the "spicy" theme into the costume.
I can understand why you went with the blue/orange combo. It seems as if she's using some form of water magic, so it'd make sense to have blue water in the background. And the orange is there to help her stand out? I have found that changing up the colour composition can give an illustration a whole new atmosphere or tone. Have you tried perhaps making the background light a warmer colour, then making the character a cooler colour? Like, say it's sunset, and that lighting's showing through the ovals by her right hand (our view) and behind her head? But maybe that wouldn't read as well when you shrink it down... I'd suggest trying a more purple/gold combination? Sometimes experimenting with colour is fun.
I'm still an illustrator-in-training, so apologies if my suggestions don't work out very well. But I must say, I'm very inspired by your work! ^__^ And you work at Bioware! I love Bioware <3
oh really? you could give it a try? mmmhhh I don't really know, maybe some blue, blue and a few touch of yellow. Or you can go with the brown/green combo. But these are my preferences, I hope you don't take offence at all. I'm not saying that your work is not good (all the contrary)
makes sense now that you put it that way, i've never played the game so it didn't even cross my mind that the image would be shrunk. Thank you for the answer, i'll keep what you said in mind if i ever make an image that i know will be resized drastically afterward.
